Contemporary Orthodoxy is a Catholic liturgy blog with an emphasis on liturgical music. At Contemporary Orthodoxy, we beg to differ from the click-baiting identity politics ruling the Catholic internet. We are seeking to worship God "in Spirit and Truth" (John 4:24) while understanding how the Catholic Church teaches us to do this. One particular aspect of this mission is to illuminate the liturgical documents of Vatican II, Sacrosanctum Concilium and Musicam Sacram. An additional aspect is understanding our mission of evangelization and the role of worship in evangelization. Particularly, this blog will have a focus on liturgical music, emphasizing both the importance of traditional liturgical music, particularly Gregorian Chant, and the importance of contemporary liturgical music, particularly praise and worship, as well as how both genres are clearly allowed by the current liturgical documents.
"Tradition is the living faith of the dead; traditionalism is the dead faith of the living. Tradition lives in conversation with the past, while remembering where we are and when we are and that it is we who have to decide. Traditionalism supposes that nothing should ever be done for the first time, so all that is needed to solve any problem is to arrive at the supposedly unanimous testimony of this homogenized tradition" -Jaroslav Pelikan
